Capital Appeals & Big Gift Campaigns

Raise money for building and other projects using the big gift process. Undertake a professional feasibility study to lay the foundations for a successful appeal. Write and produce a concise and relevant case statement. Develop the Private Phase of the capital appeal including the recruitment of appeal patrons and an appeal committee.  Undertake donor research to include high net-worth individual givers, trusts & foundations and relevant corporate institutions. Undertake discrete private approaches to selected high-worth individuals, trustees & administrators of national, regional and local trusts as well as relevant corporate leaders. Launch the Public Phase when at least half the appeal target has already been raised or pledged. Liaise with media outlets to target appeal fundraising activities. Produce a systematic, strategic approach for appeal community fundraising. Co-ordinate all appeal fundraising to achieve a successful completion.

Capital Appeal Fundraising is all about ...

getting the right people
to approach the right donors
at the right time
in the right place
for the right amount
in the right way

We will ensure that you manage to do as many of these as you possibly can. The feasibility, research and preparatory stages of an appeal are paramount.  With good preparation, sound management of the organisation and some useful contacts (we can help you to find these people) most appeals will succeed.

Capital Appeals

Paddy has worked on capital appeals to a value of between £300,000 to £21 million, for a variety of causes, including medical research, adult & children’s hospices, arts & sports groups, schools, churches, environmental and heritage organisations.

Martin House Children’s Hospice, Yorkshire

“As the Chairman of Martin House I would have no hesitation in recommending Paddy most warmly.  He has helped us raise essential funds for our Teenage Unit by directing the appeal that  has reached its £2.2 million target. Apart from being effective and knowledgeable he is actually, and perhaps more importantly, a sensitive and understanding individual and this affects the way he works. He has been most understanding in knowing when to keep a low profile and in dealing with Martin House he has respected the wishes of staff, parents and children.”

Royal National College for the Blind, Hereford

“Paddy is helping us with our £21 million re-development appeal.  We have raised £14 million so far from statutory and similar bodies and Paddy is now showing us how to approach prospective major donors and how to maximise on trusts and foundations.  We are impressed with how he is overseeing the fundraising department and how he is taking a lead on the activities while, at the same time, is transferring his skills and experience to the team.”

St Clare Hospice, Essex

Paddy has worked with St Clare Hospice over the last few months on a feasibility study for a proposed capital appeal.  We have met with lots of people to gather information that will identify the best way forward for an appeal. The whole process has gone very smoothly and Paddy’s professional conduct, knowledge and experience have been of great value. Our Board of Trustees welcomed the final report and commended Paddy on the quality of the process and the report.

Ludlow Museum Resource Centre

“Thank you for your hard work in setting up the Resource Centre appeal.  Your advice and expertise were extremely helpful and we all felt that you worked with the staff, the volunteers and the ‘appeal patrons’ most professionally and with great direction and focus.”
